Updated 20 July 2026. SAIC Motor reported strong growth outside mainland China during the first half of 2026. Its official June sales table recorded 734,676 vehicles under the category "exports and overseas bases" for January through June, an increase of 48.71% from the same period of 2025. June alone reached 145,935 vehicles, up 61.18% year on year.
The wording of the official category matters. It combines vehicles exported from China with sales associated with SAIC's overseas production bases. It should therefore be described as export and overseas-base volume, not as a customs count of vehicles shipped from China. The figures are company-reported sales data and should not be treated as proof that a particular used vehicle is available, export-ready or approved in a buyer's country.
What SAIC reported
| Official measure | Reported volume | Year-on-year change |
|---|---|---|
| June exports and overseas bases | 145,935 vehicles | +61.18% |
| H1 exports and overseas bases | 734,676 vehicles | +48.71% |
| H1 total SAIC vehicle sales | 2,045,375 vehicles | -0.35% |
| H1 new-energy vehicle sales | 795,834 vehicles | +23.14% |
In a separate overseas update, SAIC said MG sold more than 190,000 vehicles in Europe in the first half, more than 20% above the prior-year period. It also said MG established directly operated sales companies in Belgium and Luxembourg on 1 July. SAIC described a broader shift from shipping vehicles alone toward local sales, service and technology operations.
Why the figures matter to international buyers
A larger overseas network can improve brand visibility, parts planning and the amount of market-specific information available to importers. It may also indicate that more models and powertrain types are being prepared for different regions. SAIC said its planned global range covers internal-combustion, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles.
That does not make Chinese-market and overseas-market versions interchangeable. A model carrying the same badge can differ in charging inlet, software, radio frequencies, lighting, driver-assistance functions, language support, emissions equipment or warranty coverage. A European MG sales figure also says nothing about whether a China-market used MG, Roewe, IM, Maxus or Wuling can be registered in another jurisdiction.
Limits buyers should keep in view
- The sales numbers are company disclosures and are not an independent customs dataset.
- The category includes overseas-base volume, so it is not equivalent to shipments from Chinese ports.
- Aggregate sales do not identify the condition, specification or legal status of an individual used vehicle.
- Network expansion does not automatically extend a domestic warranty or connected service to an imported unit.
- Concept-model announcements and future product plans are not current inventory commitments.
What to verify vehicle by vehicle
Before requesting a final quotation, confirm the VIN, original Chinese model name, exact trim, build date, first-registration date and odometer reading. For an EV or plug-in hybrid, request the available battery identification and a dated diagnostic or inspection record; a model-level specification is not a battery-health report.
Next, check the destination's rules for age, steering position, emissions, lighting, type approval and pre-shipment inspection. Confirm the charging connector and supported protocols rather than inferring them from the brand. Connected navigation, apps, over-the-air updates and driver-assistance functions should be tested or documented for use outside China. Finally, put the commercial term, named port, inspection scope, supplied documents and after-sales plan in writing.
The H1 data is a useful market signal: SAIC's international activity expanded rapidly in early 2026. It is not a substitute for unit-level sourcing discipline. Professional buyers should use the market data to frame questions, then approve only the exact vehicle and destination plan that have been checked. They should also separate manufacturer sales momentum from the availability, history and condition of units circulating in China's used-vehicle market.
