A large number needs context
China’s charging network reached 23.057 million connectors by the end of June 2026, according to a release from the National Energy Administration’s electricity reliability and engineering-quality supervision centre. The total was 43.2% higher than a year earlier. Public connectors accounted for 5.009 million of the total and private connectors for 18.048 million.
The release also reported 247 million kW of installed public charging power, an average of 49.35 kW per public connector, and more than 180,000 high-power connectors. County-level charging coverage was reported at 98.61%.
Those figures are useful evidence of the depth of China’s domestic EV ecosystem. They are not a universal measure of how a specific exported vehicle will charge after arrival abroad. Connector hardware, grid supply, payment systems, charging-network access, installation standards and local rules all vary by market.
What overseas buyers can learn from the data
For an importer, the statistic is most useful as market context. It helps explain why Chinese-market vehicles may have detailed charging, battery-management and range information. It does not tell a buyer whether a particular car supports the local plug standard or whether a local DC charger will communicate with it.
That distinction matters because an EV listing can look complete while leaving out the compatibility facts that affect daily operation. “Fast charging” is not enough. The buyer should establish the inlet type, AC and DC capability, maximum charging rate, voltage architecture where relevant, charging-cable equipment, language settings and the availability of safe adaptation options before contracting.
Questions to put on every EV request
- Which range test standard is shown: CLTC, WLTP, NEDC, EPA or another standard?
- What traction-battery chemistry and nominal capacity are recorded for this exact vehicle?
- Which AC and DC inlet configuration is fitted, and is it compatible with the destination market?
- What are the vehicle’s stated charging-power limits and what evidence supports them?
- Are battery-condition, diagnostic or warranty records available for review?
- What destination-country conversion, certification or inspection steps may apply?
What this data does not mean
- It is not a guarantee of charging compatibility outside China.
- It does not prove a particular used EV’s remaining range or battery health.
- It does not replace local electrical, customs, certification or road-registration advice.
- It does not create an obligation for any charging-network operator to serve an imported vehicle.
How to turn a broad statistic into a usable sourcing decision
Use charging-network data to ask better questions, not to assume an answer. Ask for the vehicle’s specification sheet, photographs of its charging inlet, its original Chinese model name and any available diagnostic evidence. Then compare those facts with the destination’s charging infrastructure and compliance rules before paying a deposit.
That process also keeps a quotation honest. A source-market range claim, a battery-capacity figure and an export price are three separate fields. Each should be traceable to the vehicle, its records or a written commercial quote.
